Crayon Canvas

Huge thanks to everyone for your messages, wonderful comments and most of all your words of encouragement !

A few days ago I posted my wicked crayon canvas inspired by the artwork I found on Pinterest

I'm so excited that it turned out so well and even more excited that I recorded the steps to share with you.

It really is true what they say," instant gratification on the melting process". You will not be disappointed. :)

Here's a little play-by-play:

Start off with a white canvas from your local craft shop. I got mine at Michael's. You can go any size. I figured "go big, or go home" and went 20 X 30!

Dipping into my craft paint with sponge applicators, I painted random colorful, vertical stripes on my canvas, and let it dry over night.

For the fun part, I bought over 500 crayons ! I had a ton left over.

I let my imagination run wild with no real pattern in mind.(as you can see there's more yellow than any other color). No worries, there's no wrong way to do this.

With the paint dry, I was ready to add the crayons.

The most tedious part of the artwork is peeling the wrap off the crayons and hot gluing them into place. But so worth it when you see the outcome.

Once you have all the crayons in place, get ready to melt, melt, melt (with a hair dryer).

And Voila ! Watch in amazement as you colorful art is created!

To add a little flare, I painted "Be in spirit" freely across the center of the artwork. (Before I melted)
I look at it everyday and it reminds me to live "in the moment".

Fun Fact: Hand hold a crayon just above the canvas and with the hair dryer, melt it toward the canvas to make the "splatter" effect.

I recommend this project to everyone! Feel free to send pictures of your own crayon canvas to hotbynight@gmail.com
Have fun!!
